For portraits, whether it be corporate headshots or senior portraits, my preferred shoot is outside with natural light and an occasional off-camera flash, although I will setup an indoor studio as well if more suitable. My go to lens for portraits is the Canon 85mm. 85mm is said to be the most flattering focal length for humans and I tend to agree. The best portrait shots (n my humble opinion) have 'tack sharp' facial features with a blown out (blurry) background. That's what the 85mm delivers, sharp eyeballs with excellent background separation.
